Students in the Elementary Program use the tools they acquired in the Primary Program to describe and analyze information. Students read a broader base of literature, encompassing non-fiction, fiction, poetry and biographies. As elementary students learn to analyze the structure of literature, they also practice writing paragraphs, essays, and research papers. Elementary students use mathematic skills to reason, problem-solve and reinforce prior concept development with physical models and meaningful experiences.
An elementary student uses skills from different areas of the curriculum to broaden the depth of his or her academic experience. While studying the culture and history of Africa, African mask makers and dancers demonstrated their talents, which led students to create their own artifacts and to present elements of African dance to their peers. Individually and in groups, students created, wrote and performed an African folklore presentation using skills developed from all areas of the curriculum.
Group projects also target themes in the geography, government and economics of Georgia, the United States and countries throughout the world. Science themes target wetlands, eco-systems, motion and force, astronomy and chemistry.
