Learning extends beyond the four walls of the classroom.
Beginning in Preschool, children participate in co-curricular enrichment programs that enhance their school experience. A student participates in the multiple facets of musical expression through visual, auditory, and tactile experiences. Using this method of active discovery, a High Meadows student learns the rudiments of music, rhythm, and choral performances by listening, singing, composing, and playing an instrument.
The Arts are used to create visual demonstrations of concepts learned in the classroom. Shape, line, form, and design are incorporated into the art program so that children can use a variety of art materials appropriately, solve visual art problems, and describe and interpret works of art in terms of history, culture, or aesthetic criteria.
At High Meadows, technology skills are used to enhance a learner’s experience in all areas of the curriculum. Beginning in Kindergarten, word processing skills, presentation and spreadsheet development, and Internet research skills are practiced and eventually mastered.
The Physical Education program is designed to introduce movement, fitness, and team sport skills to students in preschool through eighth grade on a bi-weekly basis. Students begin the school year with swimming instruction.
Preschool children are introduced to Spanish through music and chants. Beginning in Kindergarten, students steadily learn how to read and translate while learning about Hispanic/Latino culture as they progress through school. Spanish instruction increases to two days per week in second grade and then to four days per week in the Middle Years Program.
