Co-Teaching & Low Student-Teacher Ratios

Our students are encouraged to broaden their perspective on what they are capable of as learners. This level of understanding each child's strengths, areas for opportunity, interests, and needs is possible largely due to our low student-teacher ratios and co-teaching model. Co-taught classes (every class from Preschool through Fifth Grade) have two teachers who work together to serve their entire class of students. Co-teaching enables students to

  • observe adults modeling collaboration,
  • benefit from multiple perspectives and teaching styles in the classroom,
  • experience more curricular differentiation, and
  • have frequent small group and individual time with teachers.

Parents benefit from co-taught classes by receiving regular feedback from two qualified educators, whose thoughts and observations about each child are more robust than those that would be possible in a classroom with a single instructor and higher ratio.

All teachers participate in planning and implementing curriculum and assessing student achievement. In our preschool classes, the maximum student/teacher ratio is 8:1 with a class size of 16. Classes in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade average 18 - 22 students with a 11:1 student/teacher ratio. In the Middle Years program, content experts teach courses and students develop relationships with a consistent group of teachers throughout their experience in classes averaging 18 students.
