Animal Care

High Meadows is home to a variety of animals, both wild and domesticated. Any given day on the campus, students can see geese, turtles, hummingbirds, lizards, frogs, and fish, to name a few. Among our farm animals, we have ponies, goats, sheep, rabbits and chickens. Our Animal Care Program teaches students to interact and care for all of the animals in our environment, including the geese who spend their mornings on the meadow to the snapping turtle who is just passing through.

By working directly with our domesticated animals, students can expect to learn animal behaviors, anatomy, proper use of tack and equipment, physical care and basic first aid. Students will also observe and participate in daily animal care activities, such as walking the goats and sheep; collecting eggs; exercising the ponies; feeding and watering the animals; and cleaning the pens.

As they care for and learn more about the animals who share their world, Animal Care students learn kindness and respect for animals, the environment and one another.
