Our child-centered music curriculum is structured around the Orff-Schulwerk philosophy of music education. The elements of music-melody, rhythm, texture, harmony, and form drive the instruction while readily yielding to student inquiry. The music program is based on the national standards set forth by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

General Music

The child is always a participant in making music, not a spectator. Early Years and Elementary Years students learn to play the guitar, recorder, and percussion instruments in addition to singing. Music Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum through the study of arranging and composition.

Middle Years students can choose to study Music Arts, Music Technology, Music Video Design, or Show Choir as Mini-Courses.

Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Band are offered to Fifth through Eighth Grade students. All bands meet during the regular school day. Band members have the extended opportunities of participating in extracurricular ensembles such as Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Drumline.

The Music Department has two full-time certified music teachers. Guest clinicians, artists, and conductors provide supplemental instruction throughout the School year.
