HMS Community Welcomes Restored Garden Space

The Earth Day celebration provided the perfect opportunity to raise awareness about environmental issues, promote sustainability, and inspire protection of our planet.
The Community Gathering & Garden Welcoming Ceremony was an amazing way to celebrate Earth Day 2024! We began the day with a performance by our band and a Community Gathering featuring Blue Bird Awards for students who have helped the Earth this year. The Garden Welcoming Ceremony kicked off with a performance by our Pre-K students singing, “Good Morning Dear Earth”. Ms. Baker then shared a few inspiring words about the importance of having a garden and how it will be utilized in the coming seasons.

Those who donated at the gala last spring to help fund the garden remodel project and classroom representatives placed a painted rock under the flowering arch to create our very special “rock garden.”

The ceremony concluded with our 8th grade students planting sunflower seeds while Charlie H. (8th grade) read a poem he wrote for the special occasion.

The Earth Day activities continued throughout the day. Students visited the booths of the Milton Bee Club and Peachtree Hand Spinners Guild. Our sheep received their yearly shearing to get them ready for warmer months. Each grade also selected meaningful projects to focus on in the afternoon, including investigating pollution and microplastics, garden sign making, nature journaling, planting, trash pickup, birding, and invasive species removal.

Earth Day provided the perfect opportunity to raise awareness about environmental issues, promote sustainability, and inspire protection of our planet.
