About Us

Community & Family

Rooted in Community

Our families and faculty represent a diverse collage of perspectives, backgrounds, and beliefs.

Our mutual commitment to children, education, and positive impact draw us together to create an environment where relationships and learning flourish. High Meadows is far more than just an academic institution; it is a community, a family, and a place to grow. See our community in action when you join us for activities throughout the year!

List of 4 items.

  • Gather for family picnics, service-oriented activities, and teacher appreciation events.

  • Enjoy special events like student presentations and performances, school festivals, and the annual Meadow Mile walk/run.

  • Volunteer as a mystery reader or pony ride helper, help organize Fall Festival or Earth Day activities, assist with fundraising, or participate in our parent organization. Your time and talents are welcome!

  • Attend one of our many school plays, band concerts, sporting events, and two annual overnight campouts by the tipi.

Our philosophy is that education takes place all day, every day. It’s not something that happens only when you cross the threshold of a particular classroom building. That’s why we invite families to join their child’s educational journey. Together, we reinforce our school’s values, creating invested and engaged learners and caring citizens of the world.

Family Association

At High Meadows, all current parents are automatically part of the Family Association at High Meadows School (FAHMS).  This welcoming group fosters family and community engagement with activities throughout the year.

Special Events

s

Fall & Spring Picnics

At our Fall and Spring Picnics, the community gathers on the Meadow beside the Community Center where students and parents/guardians spread blankets and camp chairs and enjoy their picnics. Everyone practices pack-in and pack-out by bringing reusable dishes and utensils.

Fall Festival

The Fall Festival, a High Meadows tradition, highlights our unique community’s creativity, joy, and warmth. It includes fun activities, a Sweet Stroll, a bake sale, and other special events. Food options are available for purchase. FAHMS and High Meadows administrators coordinate all aspects of the Fall Festival, and there are many opportunities for volunteers to participate, both in activities and in general operations.

Crucial Conversations for the Community

Crucial Conversations occur several times during the school year and provide an opportunity for High Meadows families and employees to come together and engage in conversation around important topics like race, gender, LGTBQIA+, privilege, socioeconomic status, and much more. Join us for events, community conversations, movie nights, affinity groups, and more.

Halloweenie Roast

Halloweenie Roast is held on two separate evenings in October for students and younger siblings from Pre-K through third grade. Children wear their favorite costumes and enjoy choosing a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, face painting, pumpkin decorating, games, and much more! Older siblings often volunteer to work with a parent or guardian at this event.

Family Campout

Family Campout is held in the fall and spring. Families camp out on the High Meadow and enjoy a nighttime walk through the woods, s’mores around the campfire, and breakfast cooked on the campfire in the morning!

Grandparents Day

Children are welcome to invite grandparents or special adult friends (relatives, neighbors, sitters, etc.) to participate in special presentations, tours, and classroom visits on Grandparents Day.

An Evening with Alumni

Life at High Meadows is great, but what comes next? You can find out by attending An Evening with Alumni. Distinguished High Meadows alumni will be on hand for a panel discussion about how the High Meadows experience impacted their own education and life choices. Families of our youngest students can see the big picture of what a High Meadows education will mean, and 8th Grade Families will gain valuable insight into the transition to life after High Meadows.

Emphasis Night

Once a year, the entire High Meadows community studies a single unit of study at the same time. Each classroom interprets the unit in its own way, driven by the students’ skills, inquiries, and interests. Each year’s Emphasis topic is closely guarded until the unit of study begins. Emphasis culminates with a single evening during which students, Families and community members are invited to see how each class and grade level approached the topic. The experience is dramatic and exciting, offering a dynamic demonstration of what makes High Meadows School such an extraordinary educational environment. Past topics include Change, Trash, Leonardo da Vinci, Atlanta, Australia, Money, Benjamin Franklin, Brazil, Cleopatra, Beauty, Oceania, and Rivers. Emphasis is a testament to the integrated curriculum practices at High Meadows. On Emphasis Night, family members, neighbors, and friends visit classrooms and experience the in-depth learning that takes place at High Meadows.

Early Years Festival

The annual Early Years Festival is a wonderful opportunity for families with young children (ages 2-6) to enjoy music, food, friends, and fun activities and crafts led by High Meadows teachers. This event is a great chance to invite your friends and neighbors to experience the magic of High Meadows. Bring a friend, bring a neighbor, bring your sense of wonder!

Gala

At High Meadows School, the Gala is a biennial tradition. Parents, faculty and staff, board members, and alumni gather to raise money for High Meadows. In addition to auction items collected from the community, each classroom puts together an art project and a basket to be auctioned off during the Gala. The event usually includes dinner, dancing, and bidding on live and silent auction items. CTA

Exhibition Night

Exhibition is a powerful demonstration of student agency. As part of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, students across the globe participate in Exhibition and have an event where students are given the opportunity to share their understanding of a real-life issue or topic they've covered. It's a great way to help students reflect on all their learning while developing skills of presentation and assessment. In 2024, the topic was Sustainable Consumerism. Students researched areas such as sustainable fashion, sustainability in the home, sustainable food and agriculture, and sustainability in local recreation and entertainment.
The High Meadows community celebrates and perpetuates each individual’s quest for knowledge and skill, sense of wonder, and connection to the natural environment. We empower each to be a compassionate, responsible, and active global citizen.
