Head of School & Camp

Welcome!

"I could not be happier to serve the High Meadows School and Camp
community. Every time I step onto this campus, engage with a teacher, bump into an alum, or chat with a prospective parent, I am reminded of what drew me to this magical place. At High Meadows, students are surrounded by adults who are learners as well as listeners and for whom education is paramount. Every member of our community is a partner and caretaker of our mission and our children. As such, we protect the imaginations and sense of wonder of our students and encourage their intrinsic desire to lean in and make a difference.

I am convinced that real, deep learning happens only when we are willing to drop our guard, take risks, and stretch toward possibility. It is a process that takes time and patience, and relationships are at the heart of it all.

Ultimately, schools are most valuable because they create connections,
relationships, lessons, and stories that people carry with them for the rest of their lives. At High Meadows, we prioritize these relationships and the
connections students make with each other, adults, the natural environment, and the larger world around them. The joy and wonder that exude from our students extend far beyond their eighth-grade year. It is the foundation upon which they can create their best lives."

About Lisa

Lisa Baker joined High Meadows as the Head of School & Camp in 2020. She is responsible for leading educational programming, community building, financial management, attracting and developing faculty and staff, strategic planning, stewardship of our campus, and carrying out our mission.

Lisa has more than 30 years of educational experience teaching, coaching, and leading in public and independent schools in Virginia, Maryland, Michigan, and Massachusetts. Lisa’s multitude of roles and experiences include curriculum development, interdisciplinary teaching, leading a school for gifted learners, college counseling, strategic planning, professional development, fundraising, and swimming instruction. Her early experiences as a Camp Director for Camp Greenway at the Madeira School and her teaching in middle school provided a deep appreciation for the power of a Pre-K through 8th Grade school that embraces the wonders of childhood and the power of student voice. Lisa is a leader who values collaboration and shared responsibility. She is a strategic thinker with a big heart for kids and the adults who support them.

Lisa and her wife Kristi have three children—one who recently graduated college, one in college and one entering her senior year of high school. You will likely see them out together at local markets, paddling the Chattahoochee in their blue canoe, on their bikes, or hiking with their dogs, Luna and Dexter.
The High Meadows community celebrates and perpetuates each individual’s quest for knowledge and skill, sense of wonder, and connection to the natural environment. We empower each to be a compassionate, responsible, and active global citizen.
