Our Campus

High Meadows prioritizes diverse and stimulating environments to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning. You’ll find dynamic, spacious, and adaptable learning and community gathering spaceswith flexible furniture arrangements and natural lighting. Dedicated art studios and well-equipped science and maker labs encourage creativity and inquiry. Music and theatre spaces support students' artistic expression. Our structures reflect our rich history, progressive education approach, the needs of engaged learners and the faculty and administrators who run High Meadows.

Academic and Administrative Buildings

Franklin House/Main Office

Franklin House is the first stop for visitors and houses the main school office and most of the administration offices, including the Office of Admission. In prior years, it served as a classroom and the school library. It is one of the two homes that remain on the property from when it was a working farm more than 50 years ago.

Classrooms

Our indoor learning environments are designed to bring in as much natural light as possible to complement our outdoor learning spaces. High ceilings and flexible spaces allow our students to move about and participate in interactive academic lessons. There are dedicated buildings for the Pre-K, Early Years, Elementary Years, and Middle Years designed specifically for the needs of the different developmental ages.
Elementary Years Building

The Elementary Years building at High Meadows School is a warm and inviting space that nurtures curiosity and exploration. Classrooms are vibrant and colorful, designed to inspire young learners with ample natural light and flexible seating arrangements. Each room is equipped with age-appropriate resources and materials that encourage hands-on learning and creativity. The building also includes cozy common areas where students can come together and a kitchen classroom, fostering a close-knit and supportive community.
Middle Years Building

High Meadows School's Middle School building offers a dynamic and welcoming environment designed to foster collaboration and creativity. The classrooms are spacious, filled with natural light, and equipped with modern technology to support interactive learning. Each space is thoughtfully arranged to encourage student engagement, with areas for group work, individual study, and hands-on activities. The building also features common areas where students can gather, promoting a strong sense of community.
Library, Technology, Art, and Music/Band

In the library, students and teachers have access to print and digital resources, as well as a wide array of books of all genres. The library is also home to our computer and digital production lab and three 3-D printers. Next door are dedicated spaces for art and music instruction.
Community Center

A Gold LEED-certified building, the Community Center hosts our basketball team, campus-wide events, monthly Community Gatherings, educational speaker series, and many afterschool programs.
Tinker Shed

The Tinker Shed, behind the Caboose, is a maker space for student projects. Formerly the Maintenance Barn, this area was expanded and improved to accommodate woodworking and other student-driven creative pursuits. We provide the tools, materials, and guidance–students do the rest–in this work shed that includes indoor and covered open-air spaces.
Barn Theatre

Erected in place of the original farm’s livestock barn, this building was repurposed into a beautifully rustic performance space with full lighting and sound, designed to highlight the notable theatre arts program led by our resident director/actor faculty team. The High Meadows community held an old-fashioned barn raising to tear down the old barn and raise the new one, using much of the same wood and other materials.

Barnyard

The Barnyard located in the Low Meadow is home to the animals that are an important part of the High Meadows School program.

Meet some of our animals
Crawford Cabin/Field

Crawford Cabin was built for Florence “Mema” Crawford in the 1980s. She lived there until 1992 when it became the school art room and darkroom. Today, it serves as a group meeting space, administrative offices, and classrooms.
