Anniversary Campaign

Happy Birtday to HMS

The 50th anniversary of High Meadows provided a chance to celebrate our past and a special time to consider how we invest in the future.

Over the past five years, we have dedicated ourselves to clarifying and recommitting to our mission and vision by understanding our roots and exploring the physical land upon which we learn and grow. These efforts, including a comprehensive permaculture study and strategic planning process, have pointed to needs and opportunities that set the stage for something new and exciting. It’s time to gift the High Meadows campus a new facility to serve and inspire future generations of students and campers!

Building Flyover

Project Scope

This two-story building will be home to three classrooms and a larger community/conference room. It will house our Environmental Sustainability classes on the upper floor and two Middle Years classes on the lower floor.  Additionally, we have two office spaces for administrative use and a larger “common room” that our Middle Years team will utilize as needed.  At the back of the building, we have designed a large, multi-level deck space that provides ample space for outdoor learning and will ultimately provide direct access to a new wetland teaching area.

List of 4 frequently asked questions.

  • A Focus on Sustainable Solutions

This new learning space will help provide pathways for exploring the elements of sustainability, encompassing the environment, equity, and economy. Aligned with our vision, whether in science, English, social studies, mathematics, or Spanish, the new learning spaces will provide pathways for students to explore all aspects of sustainability and ethical leadership.
  • Environmental Sustainability

The new building will provide a dedicated space for our Environmental Sustainability (ES) program. This will enhance our ES program by creating indoor/outdoor learning spaces, easy access to a wetland area as well as an observation deck, closer and easier proximity to trails, pollinator gardens, and a medicinal garden trail, and a larger space for collaborative work, experimentation, and research.
  • Middle Years Program

For Middle Years this new building will provide:
    • Outdoor learning spaces with immediate access to the classrooms, enabling seamless transitions and small group work.
    • Adaptive classroom spaces to meet the needs of the program.
    • Opportunities for long-term projects, and transdisciplinary and multi-age experiences utilizing the wetlands area and the common, flexible-use space.
    • Proximity to lower meadow and woods for utilization in Mini Courses, Outdoor Living Skills, mindfulness activities and retreats will help extend the program throughout campus.
    • Easy access for outdoor play at the soccer field, basketball court, lower meadow, and gaga pit.
  • Community

The building will offer a flexible space for multi-age and interdisciplinary student gatherings, group presentations, and visiting speakers. Building community also goes beyond our students to our families and outside organizations. This space will also serve as a gathering space for: FAHMS groups, school affinity groups, Board meetings, and community educational/outreach programs. Direct access to the Community Center parking lot and the dedicated nature of this space will provide a convenient and comfortable environment for our parent community and guests.
