  • For Grace Colley ’13, a Passion for Anthropology, Public Policy, and Time Abroad Began at High Meadows School

    Grace Colley ’13 was understandably anxious about starting at a new school as a rising sixth grader. Within minutes of arriving at High Meadows School in August 2010, however, her peers quelled her fears. She immediately made a friend in the Middle Years Courtyard, and High Meadows has been influential in shaping her life ever since. Grace calls HMS “the best investment a family can make” because it helps a child think critically, engage with the community, and care about the environment while forming lifelong connections with friends and faculty.

  • Future Accountant Sandra Schmitz '19 Shines at Tulane University

    Hi everyone! My name is Sandra Schmitz, and I am a Class of 2019 High Meadows School alumna. I’m a junior at Tulane University in the A.B. Freeman School of Business and part of the Joint BSM/MAACT Program. This program puts me on track to graduate with my bachelor’s in finance, a minor in Spanish, and a Master of Accounting. I plan to sit for the CPA exam after graduation and pursue a career in public accounting. My High Meadows experience shaped me into the person I am today by fostering my curiosity, confidence, and love of learning.

  • Sonali S. '24 Finds Her Home at a New School After Time in India

    Many students get butterflies when starting a new school. Imagine the added complexities of doing it in a new country. Before seventh grade, Sonali S. '24 moved from India back to the United States and enrolled at High Meadows School, where she immediately felt at home. The joyful culture, caring and supportive teachers, and 42-acre campus complete with a stunning barnyard, helped her become the person she is today. She went from disliking school in India to loving her experience at High Meadows.

  • HMS Alumna Jessica Chaikof '10 Pursues PhD With Resilience

    Jessica Chaikof ’10 has always been linked to High Meadows School, even before enrolling. Her brother came to HMS in 1997, and three years later, Jessica joined the HMS community in Pre-K. Her life story has taken her from the beautiful 42-acre campus to Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and beyond. An outstanding relationship builder and self-advocate who is not afraid to take risks, Jessica is currently a published researcher and fourth-year PhD student at Brandeis University.

  • Fallon Smith '16 Finds Creativity and Confidence on the Stage and in Nature at High Meadows

    Fallon Smith '16 vividly remembers standing on stage in the Johnson-Kemp Barn Theatre at High Meadows School and feeling empowered. A confidence washed over him as he played the Ice Queen in an adaptation of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. From preschool through 8th grade, Fallon’s days at High Meadows were filled with joy, laughter, and the “call to adventure” in the theatre and in nature. “I had the world at my fingertips,” he recalled.

    Maya M. '23 arrived at High Meadows School after years at Casa Montessori School, an institution that ends after sixth grade and has a strong relationship with High Meadows. Like many Casa Montessori graduates, Maya joined HMS for seventh grade with confidence and a strong academic foundation. Maya’s family knew from other Casa graduates to expect a great HMS experience, but they did not know how transformative her seventh and eighth grade years would be.

The young second grader was excited and ready for this new educational adventure, but little did she know just how much HMS’s nurturing, caring environment would inspire and prepare her to succeed and become a published researcher.

  • Nathaniel W-R. '21 Discovers His Passion and Future Career in Music and Vehicle Mechanics

    In the classic children’s movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the rhythmic sound of an old jalopy inspires the theme song and sets the musical in motion. For High Meadows alumnus Nathaniel W-R. ’21, the inspiration to combine music and vehicle mechanics arose thanks to the many opportunities available to him at HMS. The hands-on environment encouraged him to explore, create, and discover passions he might not have pursued at a larger school. “The campus is 42 acres, but it has a personal feel, and I liked the one-on-one time I had with my teachers. It helped me academically,” Nathaniel said.

    When a family chooses an independent school for their child, the student typically has an opportunity to shadow for a day and explore the campus before enrolling. But Joseph’s introduction to High Meadows School was anything but typical. Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, he never set foot on site and only met his teachers and classmates virtually — while living more than 1,100 miles away in Jamaica.

    Parker N. ’22 knew his first job would involve cars, but as a middle schooler, the aspiring entrepreneur didn’t have all the answers. At High Meadows School, that’s okay. The focus isn’t on having immediate solutions but on asking questions and inquiry-based learning. Thanks to small class sizes, individualized attention from faculty, and the opportunity to learn in a variety of settings across the school’s 42-acre campus, Parker gained the confidence and skills he needed to succeed.

Recently recognized by the Atlanta Jewish Times with the prestigious 18 Under 18 distinction, Lily earned the honor through her dedication to advocacy and community impact. During her time at High Meadows, she was empowered by a progressive education to take authentic action and become a catalyst for change within her community.

  • HMS Alumni Spotlight: Gabrielle Wilkinson '12

    High Meadows recently sat down with alumna Gabrielle Wilkinson ’12 to catch up. Gabby received a Master of Divinity from Emory University's Candler School of Theology in May 2024, focusing on the intersectionality of mental illness and Christianity. Her career goal is to continue working in a mental health ministry, consulting with ministries, writing (curriculum, devotionals, etc.), speaking about mental health and faith in different spaces, and providing pastoral care to those who suffer from mental health challenges.
