ATLANTA/ROSWELL – High Meadows School, an independent, International Baccalaureate® (IB) school focused on progressive education for students in preschool through eighth grade, will host a special presentation for parents and the community by Dr. Sandra Stone, Professor Emeritus at Northern Arizona University and founder of the National Multiage Institute. This event will take place Monday, Jan. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Center of High Meadows School located at 1055 Willeo Road, Roswell 30075.
A former primary multiage teacher, Dr. Stone conducts research in multiage education, is a frequent speaker at educational conferences, and serves as a national and international multiage consultant. She will offer attendees an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the benefits and practices of multiage classrooms, a practice High Meadows School has believed to be important since its founding more than 40 years ago.
Dr. Stone founded the National Multiage Institute, an international leader in providing professional development training for teachers and administrators from all over the world. She has worked extensively with schools and teachers in the U.S. and Canada, as well as Germany, Italy, Ecuador, Japan and Korea, training teachers to be strong advocates for multiage education because it contributes to the success and well-being of every child.
Among her many published works are journal articles such as “The Multiage Classroom: What Research tells the Practitioner,” “Creating Contexts for Mixed-Age Learning,” and “Creating the Multiage Classroom: A Guide for Parents.” One of her best-selling books, “Creating the Multiage Classroom,” discusses the philosophy of multiage education, and presents the strategies, environment and assessment tools needed to create an effective multiage classroom, which benefits children in a positive and powerful way.
