Parker N. '22 Discovers Entrepreneurial Spirit and Passions at High Meadows

Parker N. ’22 knew his first job would involve cars, but as a middle schooler, the aspiring entrepreneur didn’t have all the answers. At High Meadows School, that’s okay. The focus isn’t on having immediate solutions but on asking questions and inquiry-based learning. Thanks to small class sizes, individualized attention from faculty, and the opportunity to learn in a variety of settings across the school’s 42-acre campus, Parker gained the confidence and skills he needed to succeed.
“I wanted to be an entrepreneur,” shared Parker, who spent preschool through eighth grade at HMS. “At High Meadows, you make connections, network, and learn new skills. I learned how to communicate, engage people, and get them interested in what I was saying.”

Utilizing the confidence gained from their High Meadows experience, Parker and High Meadows classmate, Sage, launched a car detailing business early in their high school career. What began as a passion quickly turned into a profitable venture. “At High Meadows, we learned to holistically examine the steps it takes to create a business and connect with a target audience.” Parker explained. “The fact that I have my own business at 17 is a testament to what High Meadows teaches about taking action.”

High Meadows, however, was much more than a launching pad for Parker’s business. It was also where he took his passion for guitar to the next level, fell in love with the outdoors, and received academic instruction that prepared him for success in high school.

“While I began learning guitar at home during quarantine, it was at HMS that I first played with other people and gained the confidence to perform in public,” he explained. “Mr. West created a rock band mini-course, and with his encouragement, I joined and was given the opportunity to be lead guitarist. Mr. West fueled my love for music and challenged me to grow. My rock band experience was the highlight of my years at High Meadows.”

Beyond business and music, Parker’s time in elementary school and middle school at High Meadows also fostered a deep connection to nature. Together with his friend Larson, he explored everything the school’s 42 acres had to offer, from the chicken tree and tire swing to the Shadow Fox Trail and gorgeous rolling meadows. Their shared love for the outdoors led to countless camping trips and adventures in nature.

“Being at High Meadows with others who loved exploring and being outside let us do unique things. I had a close-knit bond with my classmates. We were like a family, and that sense of community is one of the biggest appeals of HMS.”

Parker is now thriving as an honor roll student at a public high school. His time at High Meadows School provided him with a solid academic foundation, equipping him with the critical thinking skills needed to excel in high school. He aspires to become an anesthesiologist. The lessons he learned at HMS about perseverance, problem-solving, and pursuing excellence continue to guide him as he works toward his goals.
