Roswell’s High Meadows School Creates Song For Climate Action Project, A Global Effort Involving Students From Around the World

High Meadows School

By Berry Brady for NorthFulton.com

Students at High Meadows School in Roswell, GA are lending their voices to create awareness around climate change. Students in one 2nd/3rd grade class composed a song named Breaking Down for the Climate Action Project, in which 100,000 students in 100 countries connected virtually to research climate change, develop ideas and solutions, generate awareness and take action.

As participants in the global project, High Meadows students worked with their Music teachers to create a song about climate change in response to their concerns around the issue. They researched multiple topics, discussed their prior knowledge about climate change, then brainstormed alongside music teachers to develop lyrics for their song. Simultaneously, students considered guitar chords in multiple combinations to discover a progression that sounded good to them and was best suited for the mood of their composition. Once the song was completed, students worked to record their song to be submitted to the Climate Action Project. The following is the link to the song the High Meadows students created and named Breaking Down.

The Climate Action Project (https://www.climate-action.info/:) just completed its’ third consecutive year of inspiring classrooms around the world to action around climate change. Throughout the month of October, 100,000 students across 100 countries around the world were brainstorming, discussing and connecting to share their findings virtually on how to take action globally. The Climate Action Project is a free, global education project that was launched by Koen Timmers, an educator and Take Action Global Co-Founder. The project has been endorsed by the following public figures: the Dalia Lama, Charlize Theron, and Dr. Jane Goodall.
